When does support end for Microsoft CRM 3.0?
I was on a conference call today and the customer asked me a question I didn't know the answer to off the top of my head: "When does Microsoft stop supporting Microsoft CRM 3.0"? After the call, I looked up the published support lifecycle for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0:
- Product release date: 12/1/2005
- Mainstream support retired: 4/12/2011
- Extended support retired: 4/12/2016
This is interesting because the total support duration for Microsoft Dynamics CRM is more than 10 years! In the past, Microsoft offered a three-year Mainstream Support Lifecycle policy but they obviously changed that policy to offer longer windows of support. Consequently, customers can invest in the Dynamics CRM platform without worrying about being forced to upgrade on their vendor's timetable. Microsoft allows plenty of time for customers to make the upgrade decision when it is right for them.

In my opinion, CRM 3.0 Small Business Edition is a far superior product compared to CRM 4.0 Workgroup Edition. The simple fact that the Sales Process workflow is gone made me go with v3. I know, I know the new workflow "engine" allows for a staged workflow against more than the opportunity record, BUT you cannot skip a stage, or back up a stage. There may be other significant issue, but that was enough for me. Also, the integration with GP 9 is a big deal too. Sure, I'm running SBS 2003 with SQL 2000, BUT with a few add-ons from c360, I honestly feel this is a very solid, full featured, robust, mature product. I love it.
I'm a one man IT consultant and I feel very strongly about a single silo for lead to invoice customer management. I have high hopes once I get my infrastructure up and running I'll be successful in my endeavor. I'm doing the things my competitors are not doing; I feel that will bear fruit in time.
I have your v3 book and have found it to be very helpful. If you can believe it, the "Dummies" book on v3 has been a great resource as well.
I was glad to have found the GP connector and documentation on your site THANK YOU!!!
